Wednesday, November 07, 2007
In celebration of National Nurse Practitioner Week, which begins Nov. 11, the Margaret D. Sovie Center for Advanced Practice Nursing at the University of Rochester Medical Center will hold an open house Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Center’s office (7-2536).
Nurse Practitioners at Strong Memorial Hospital are an important group of care providers. Approximately 350 Nurse Practitioners work at Strong, one of the largest, if not the largest, group of Nurse Practitioners at one institution. At Strong, Nurse Practitioners care for a wide range of patients — from health babies to critically ill adults. They work in inpatient as well as outpatient care.
The Sovie Center was created at Strong last year to organize and develop the Nurse Practitioner group. The Center was named in honor of Margaret Sovie, a former Director of Nursing at Strong and a pioneer in establishing advanced practice in acute care. The Center director is Michael Ackerman, D.N.S., R.N., C.S., F.C.C.M., F.N.A.P. The Center’s responsibilities include regulation and credentials, education, professional development and coaching, research and evidence-based practice development and practice model innovation.
Meet the staff and have refreshments at the open house, which will be held from to on Nov. 15.
