Withers Named Associate Vice President of Marketing

The University of Rochester Medical Center named Karl Withers associate vice president of marketing, a role he has served on an interim basis since May 2007. A seasoned marketing professional with nearly 20 years experience in brand development and marketing strategy, Withers will oversee a staff of 17 in creating advertising, marketing programs and other communications to support the clinical operations of the Medical Center.
Withers was recruited to the Medical Center in March 2007 as deputy director of marketing, after he produced several successful campaigns for the University of Rochester and the Medical Center while running his own agency, Antithesis Advertising.
“The creativity and passion Karl brings to his work, combined with his solid track record in developing strategic communications programs, will continue to be an asset to the Medical Center as we seek to build our reputation regionally and nationally,” said Peter Robinson, chief operating officer of the Medical Center.
As a principal of Antithesis Advertising, Withers focused on high-level brand development and broad-based advertising for clients including Strong Health, The Simon Graduate School of Business, The Warner School of Education & Human Development, American Fiber Systems and Surmotech. Prior to that, he worked in the Rochester office of the global agency at Saatchi & Saatchi, where he advanced throughout the organization, eventually serving as a vice president overseeing new business development for the firm. Prior to Saatchi, Withers worked in senior positions at a variety of Rochester’s top advertising and marketing firms including Wunderman Cato Johnson, Forward Design and Rumrill Hoyt.
He received his Bachelor of Arts from Hobart College, and an MBA from the William E. Simon School of Business. He lives in Webster with his wife and two children.
