URMC Names New Government Relations Director

Thursday, March 27, 2003

The University of Rochester Medical Center announced today that Denise Murphy McGraw has joined its staff as Director of Government Relations. In this role, McGraw will work closely with local, regional, state and federal legislators on matters critical to the Medical Center, reporting directly to Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Peter G. Robinson.

"As the Medical Center increasingly becomes an integral part of the Rochester and state economy, it's critical that we are working closely with government officials on all types of healthcare and economic issues," Robinson said. "With solid experience in legislative affairs and the healthcare industry, I am confident Denise will provide legislators with helpful input as they research and develop policies that could ultimately impact the Medical Center."

McGraw brings to the position more than a dozen years in government and advocacy positions, with an emphasis in the healthcare arena. She most recently served as director of regional affairs for The Business Council of New York State, where she coordinated all legislative grassroots advocacy and political activities for more than 5,000 corporations and 250 regional trade associations and chambers of commerce. In addition, she was executive director for the Chamber Alliance of New York State, managing the operations of the country's largest state-level professional trade association for chamber of commerce executives.

Her experience also includes positions with the Medical Society of New York as Associate Director of Regulatory and Federal Affairs, Legislative Analyst for The Business Council of New York Sate and Monroe County Legislature, and Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Joseph D. Morelle (Rochester).

McGraw will primarily work out of the Albany area, but will make regular visits to the Medical Center.
