Puzzle Events at Area Malls Support Wilmot Cancer Center

Friday, November 14, 2008

Shoppers can provide a Piece of the Cure and honor a friend or loved one who faced cancer during three fundraisers located at the Mall at Greece Ridge, Eastview and The Marketplace Mall and support local cancer care at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

The fundraiser began today to allow shoppers to purchase a piece of a giant puzzle for $15 to reveal part of a beautiful painting by artist Nicole Axelrod and share a message in honor or memory of a loved one. Axelrod created the painting to honor her mother, who is a breast cancer survivor.

The painting has been expanded to 10 feet by 8 feet and is covered with thousands of puzzle pieces. People who buy the puzzle pieces may also win a gift certificate or prize from mall shops.

Puzzle pieces can be purchased Thursdays through Sundays during the holiday season. On Mondays through Wednesdays, pieces can be purchased at the mall offices.

The giant puzzles are located near Macy’s at The Mall at Greece Ridge, near Bon-Ton at The Marketplace Mall, and in the Main Court at Eastview.

“The holidays offer time for reflection and we think of the people we’ve lost to cancer, or who are facing the disease now. This is an opportunity for them to help find a cure,” says Marianne Leahy, director of Advancement for the Wilmot Cancer Center.

All funds support the Wilmot Cancer Center. The events are sponsored by Wilmorite and supported by BFS Direct and Graphic Systems. Wilmorite was founded by James P. Wilmot, the cancer center’s namesake.
