Discussion to Provide Input on Health Care for Obama Transition Team
University of Rochester faculty and staff are invited to a small-group community discussion about the nation’s health care system next Thursday, Jan. 15. Ideas and suggestions from the session, part of a network of discussions around the nation organized by the Obama transition team, will be sent to the new administration’s health policy team.
The session is being organized by Deborah Friedman, M.D., MPH, a neuro-ophthalmologist with the University of Rochester Eye Institute who has long had an interest in health care policy.
“The health care system does work very well for most people,” said Friedman. “But there are a lot of people falling through the cracks – people who aren’t getting routine care, or preventive care, who aren’t able to afford their medications. I see some of these patients, who tell me about these problems, but there are a lot of people whom I don’t see, and no doctor sees, because they can’t afford to come in. We need to fix that.”
The discussion will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the LeChase Assembly Hall (Room G-9576). Seating is limited. Anyone interested in attending should register by calling the Medical Center Call Center at 275-8762 or by e-mailing callcenter@urmc.rochester.edu.
