URMC Expert to Give Free Talk on Preventing Colon Cancer

Mar. 24, 2009

Bushra Fazili, M.D., of the Gastroenterology Group of Rochester will present a free talk from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the Hahnemann Club, 301 Stoutenburgh Lane located on the campus of The Highlands at Pittsford, off of Rt. 31, just east of the village of Pittsford.

Maintaining good gastrointestinal health is a challenge for many seniors, and Fazili’s presentation will focus on preventive strategies to help these adults stay healthy. “Colon cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the US, and colonoscopy as a tool remains the most favorable method of screening,” Fazili said.

Fazili will also discuss other common gastrointestinal maladies and compare alternative screening options.

The talk, titled “Promoting a Healthy Gut,” is third in the 10-part health and wellness series, “To Your Health!.” Presented by The Highlands at Pittsford and the University of Rochester Medical Center, the series aims to inspire and educate older adults about health issues specific to their needs. The programs are taught by URMC’s faculty of distinguished physicians and other providers affiliated with Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, the Eastman Dental Center, Visiting Nurse Service and other Medical Center affiliates.

To register for the talk, please call (585) 275-2838.
