Free Physicals and Immunizations Offered for Rochester Area Students
University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry students, faculty and residents will conduct free physicals for Rochester area students on Aug. 6, Aug. 20, Aug. 27 and Sept. 10.
For the first time in conjunction with the free physicals, the Monroe County Department of Health will give the immunizations required for a student to attend school. The immunizations are free of charge for those covered by Medicaid or Child Health Plus/Family Health Plus, students without health insurance or adequate coverage and Native Americans. Immunizations will be offered only during the August sessions.
“We have wanted to provide a one-stop opportunity for parents and students to get the physicals and immunizations they need and at no cost,” said Adrienne Morgan, director of the Center for Advocacy, Community Health, Education and Diversity at the University of Rochester Medical Center
The physicals and immunizations will be given from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, 415 Elmwood Avenue. Parking at the School of Medicine and Dentistry lot also is free. No appointments are necessary, but only the first 100 people will be seen at each session.
Students routinely need a physical for school, sports activities or work permits. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a signed parental consent form for the physicals. Schools can provide consent forms. The forms can be found on the Web at http://www.rcsdk12.org/197310520105929690/FileLib/browse.asp?a=374&BMDRN=2000&BCOB=0&c=55448
Students seeking immunizations must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A student also should bring his or her immunization record.
The physicals are provided courtesy of the Center for Advocacy, Community Health, Education and Diversity and the Department of Emergency Medicine. The School of Medicine and Dentistry has provided free physicals to almost 1,500 students in the last five years.
