University of Rochester and The Highlands at Pittsford Present 'To Your Health!'

The popular health and wellness series, “To Your Health!” continues through fall 2009, featuring programs of interest to active older adults.
All talks are led by medical experts from the University of Rochester Medical Center and take place at the Hahnemann Club, 301 Stoutenburgh Lane, located on the campus of The Highlands at Pittsford, off of Rt. 31, just east of the village of Pittsford. The Club is an ideal setting for learning and socializing with like-minded peers and parking is conveniently located right outside the clubhouse, along the street.
The seminars are free and open to the public but registration is requested. Register by calling 275-2838.

Over the Counter Drugs – 101
4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3
Geriatrician Daniel Ari Mendelson, M.S., M.D., will discuss over-the-counter medications and issues frequently encountered: interactions with other medications, dosing, medications to avoid, generics and when to call your doctor. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions.
Time is Brain: Recognizing the Crucial Signs of Stroke Onset
4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10
Stroke, also known as a “brain attack” is now the leading cause of major disability and the third leading cause of death in the U.S. When a stroke occurs, it is critical to seek immediate medical attention. Babak S. Jahromi, M.D., Ph.D., F.R.C.S.C., will describe stroke symptoms and the latest technologies and treatments available in stroke care.
Maintaining Bladder Health
4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17
Gunhilde Buchsbaum, M.D., will discuss strategies for maintaining bladder health including the use of pelvic floor exercises, fluid consumption, dietary supplements and facts and fiction of bladder control.
