University of Rochester Medical Board Appoints New Members

The University of Rochester Medical Center announces the recent appointment of six new members to its Board of Directors. The new members include: Anne B. Francis, M.D., Richard Hershberg, Dennis Kessler, Randy Rosier, M.D., Joseph Wilson, and Ronald L. Zarrella.
"We are fortunate to have attracted such a high caliber of talent to our board," said C. McCollister "Mac" Evarts, M.D., interim vice president and vice provost for Health Affairs at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). "With diverse backgrounds in medicine, business, law and finance each brings a unique perspective that will only help the Medical Center continue to grow and better serve our community."
Anne B. Francis, M.D.,
is serving a three-year term as a community-based physician representative on the board. She has been a member of the URMC faculty since 1981, and is now a clinical associate professor of Pediatrics, as well as a managing partner of Elmwood Pediatric Group. She is currently a member of several medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Rochester Pediatric Society, the Monroe County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association, and has authored numerous medical publications.
Richard Hershberg has been very active in community service since retiring in 1992. The long-time partner of Silverman Retail Consultants, Inc., Hershberg is now on the Friends of Strong Council, serving as treasurer and president--elect. He was also the director of operations and president of the board of the Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance. As the board’s Friends of Strong representative, he will be serving a one-year term.
is the executive vice president of Kessler Group, Inc. and Kessler Family, LLC, privately held companies that manage 62 retail restaurant locations in Western New York. He has taught courses in criminology and sociology of law at several local universities, including Monroe Community College and St. John Fisher College. He serves as a community liaison for the Police Chief’s Interaction Committee, and vice president of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Foundation. Kessler and brother, Laurence are ongoing supporters of Strong’s Trauma Center since 1990. The center was renamed the Laurence and Dennis Kessler Regional Trauma Center in 1998 when the brothers pledged a donation of $1 million. Kessler will be serving a three-year term on the board.
Randy Rosier, M.D.,
is serving a one-year term as a clinical department physician representative on the board. He is a dean’s professor and chairman of orthopaedics at the Medical Center. He has held various teaching positions at the URMC since 1982 in the areas of orthopaedics, oncology, and biophysics. He is the principal investigator of several ongoing research projects, and has published numerous research and clinical articles.
Joseph Wilson is senior vice president of investments for Morgan Stanley, a position he has held since 2000. Prior to this, he served as vice president for Prudential Securities for six years. His past and present board memberships include the Marie C. & Joseph C. Wilson Foundation, and the Rochester Association of the United Nations. He is serving a three-year term on the board.
Ronald L. Zarrella
is chairman and CEO of Bausch & Lomb since joining the company in November 2001. Prior to his appointment at Bausch & Lomb, he spent seven years at General Motors North America as executive vice president and president. His board memberships include U.S. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), Avaya Inc., and the Rochester Business Alliance Executive Committee. He is serving a three-year term on the board.
