William O'Malley, M.D.
Highland Hospital, the region’s leading provider of bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, will host an informational seminar on bariatric surgery at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Radisson Hotel in Corning, 125 Denison Parkway East. William E. O’Malley, M.D., Chief of Bariatric Surgery, will host the seminar. Dr. O’Malley – a world-renowned minimally invasive surgeon – has helped thousands of patients in the region achieve lasting weight loss through bariatric surgery. He will provide an overview of the different types of surgery. A bariatric program coordinator will explain the surgical process and the integral role lifestyle and diet changes play in the process.
About 80 to 90 percent of bariatric surgery patients achieve successful weight loss. Bariatric surgery is an option for:
· Those who are at least 100 pounds overweight
· Have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more
· Or have a BMI of 35 or more and are experiencing obesity-related health conditions, such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
Highland performs more bariatric surgeries than any hospital in the region.
