Event Aims to Educate Women on Maintaining Bladder Health

Rarely discussed issue impacts one in three women

Thursday, October 25, 2012

The University of Rochester Medical Center’s Pelvic Health and Continence Specialties and Pelvic Floor Disorder Alliance will host a free educational event to raise awareness of pelvic floor disorders (PFD), a common health issue for women, 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Women’s Health Pavilion, 500 Red Creek Drive, Rochester.

“Maintaining Your Bladder Health” will cover topics that affect many women but are rarely discussed, focusing on incontinence. Gunhilde Buchsbaum, M.D., professor and director of urogynecology at URMC, and Erin Duecy, M.D., will present information and answer questions on signs, symptoms, and treatment options. Guests will also hear from women who have overcome bladder health problems and improved their quality of life. Licensed physical therapist Wendy Featherstone will demonstrate easy exercises and offer tips for women on how to strengthen their pelvic floor.

The program is free and light refreshments will be served. Registration is required as seating is limited. To register, please call (585) 275-URMC (8762).
