Rochester resident to receive honor for hospital volunteerism

Monday, October 13, 2003

Jean Boyce of Warren Street will be recognized next week by the Friends of Strong organization with the Dove Award, which honors volunteers at Strong Memorial Hospital who go the extra mile.

Boyce has volunteered in the Social Work Department at Strong Memorial for 13 years. Nominated by Marina Marchioli, her supervisor, she has donated more than 2,700 hours.

A retired kindergarten teacher, Boyce is the receptionist for Social Work on Monday mornings, one of the busiest times for that department. She receives patients, families and visitors, and directs them to the appropriate area for assistance. In this role, her calm, understanding manner is appreciated by everyone, says Louise Criticos, Friends of Strong director.

Boyce assists patients and loved ones with demonstrated expertise and professionalism, Marchioli says. “Her warm personality and human compassion creates an extremely comfortable and friendly atmosphere for our patients, families and staff."

Boyce will accept the award Thursday night, Oct. 9, at the Friends of Strong Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner.
