Upcoming Events to Benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital

The community is rallying around Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong, becoming involved in a number of unique fund-raisers to benefit ill and injured children.

Pittsford basketball showdown set for Friday, Dec. 19

The third annual Rainbow Classic, a sold-out showdown between varsity basketball teams from Pittsford Mendon and Pittsford Sutherland high schools, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Goergen Gym at the University of Rochester. The girls will play first, followed by the boys. The event, which raised $40,000 during its first two years, helps fund Katie’s Computers, an initiative that puts computers into patient rooms at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Katie’s Computers is named for Katelyn Pasley, who was a third-grader at Park Road Elementary School in Pittsford when she died from leukemia.

Toy drive being held through Friday, Dec. 19

Members of the Rochester Jr. Rhinos are holding a toy drive to benefit children being cared for at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Unwrapped toys can be dropped off through Friday, Dec. 19 at the Rochester Sports Garden, 1460 E. Henrietta Road; Total Sport Experience, 880 Elmgrove Road; and the Webster Soccer Association, 865 Publishers Parkway, Webster.

Holiday ice show raising funds Dec. 20-21

The Rochester Skating School and Club is hosting its annual Winter Ice Magic Holiday Show from 3 to 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Genesee Valley Ice Arena, and from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Webster Ice Arena. The show, sponsored by Wegmans Food Markets, will feature Shaun Rogers, an international skating competitor. Tickets, which are available at Wegmans’ video department, are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Fifty percent of the proceeds will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Holtz House of Vehicles sells paper ornaments

During December, Holtz House of Vehicles is having a holiday fund-raiser to benefit patients being cared for at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Visit any of the Holtz dealerships – there are seven locations on West Henrietta Road and another at 201 E. Linden Ave., East Rochester - to support Golisano Children’s Hospital by purchasing a paper ornament.

Third annual Fantasy Flight takes off Sunday, Dec. 21

The Greater Rochester International Airport Flyers Program, in conjunction with Continental Express Airlines, Norcross Helicopter, Monroe No. 1 BOCES, and American Eagle are sponsoring a Fantasy Flight to the “North Pole.” Children from seven local agencies – including Golisano Children’s Hospital - will meet at the airport at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, and will be flying to the “North Pole” – actually Niagara Falls, N.Y. – and back to the airport. From 10 a.m. to noon, 300 children will gather in the International Arrivals Hall for a holiday party.

Help share the holiday spirit with Kards for Kids

Golisano Children’s Hospital is offering holiday cards designed by two of its patients. Each package, containing 25 cards, features one of the two designs and costs $25. Orders can be placed by calling 585-273-5948. The cards are also available at local retailers, A Different Point of View, Casey’s Hallmark Shops, Craft Antique Co-op, Fabulous Flowers, Parkleigh, The Pedestal, and The Gigglin’ Pig.

Kaufmann’s selling teddy bears to help kids

Kaufmann’s 2003 “May Your Wishes Come True” holiday purchase-with-purchase program, which benefits Golisano Children’s Hospital, features three exclusive teddy bears made by Gund. Each bear celebrates Love, Hope or Courage. In addition, a three-bear set – with smaller versions of the bears – is available as part of the promotion. Kaufmann’s will donate $1 from each purchase of teddy bears to Golisano Children’s Hospital. The three 26-inch collectible teddy bears sell for $15.99 each, with a purchase of $25 or more required for each bear. A set of all three bears in a 13-inch size sells for $19.99, and requires a purchase of $25 or more.

All proceeds from these fund-raisers benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital, the only hospital in the Rochester and Finger Lakes regions devoted solely to the care of children. For more information on any of these events, call 585-273-5948.
