Southern Tier Oncology Joins UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute
The Shardas and their staff have provided medical oncology and chemotherapy infusion services in Hornell for 20 years, and they will continue to see patients for office visits and consultations at their 21 Orchard St. clinic. They treat all types of cancers and work closely with the UR Medicine Radiation Oncology clinic also located in the Orchard Street cancer center.
“Our patients are like family, and that is not going to change,” Varsha Sharda said. “You will still have your same doctor, see our same staff and have our same commitment.”
The Shardas will expand their availability to provide office visits and consultations at Wilmot Cancer Institute Dansville, located at Noyes Hospital, an affiliate of UR Medicine. All chemotherapy infusion services will move to the Infusion Center at Noyes Hospital.
The Shardas will retain privileges at St. James Mercy Hospital, and their patients can still use the laboratory, imaging and other ancillary services there.
“We are excited to continue serving the Hornell community and to expand our services across the region,” said Pradeep Sharda, who will also become Director of Medical Oncology at Myers Cancer Center. “Being part of UR Medicine and Wilmot Cancer Institute will allow us to provide the best possible care for our patients. We will be able to offer a wider range of services to our patients, including access to clinical trials, social support and financial assistance.”
“With the Shardas on our team, we can ensure that patients in Hornell, Dansville and Wellsville get the comprehensive, coordinated care they need without having to come all the way to Rochester,” said Jonathan W. Friedberg, M.D., M.M.Sc., director of Wilmot Cancer Institute. “We are excited to be able to expand our services in the region, as we look forward to the completion of the Myers Cancer Center, which will serve as a hub for oncology care in this area.”
“Pradeep and Varsha Sharda have brought many years of expertise and talent to patients in the Hornell community, and we are proud to welcome them to Wilmot Cancer Institute,” said Aram F. Hezel, M.D., chief of UR Medicine’s Division of Hematology/Oncology.
The Shardas are board-certified in medical oncology, and they are graduates of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in India. Pradeep Sharda completed his residency at Harlem Hospital, Columbia University, and his fellowship at East Tennessee State University. Varsha Sharda completed residencies at King Edward Memorial Hospital, India; Westchester County Medical Center and East Tennessee State University.
