Wilmot’s Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta Receives Prestigious Accreditation
Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
Comprehensive Breast Care is the only breast center in the Rochester region to receive this accreditation.
Based at the Pluta Cancer Center in Henrietta, Comprehensive Breast Care has been accredited by the program since 2011. It features a multidisciplinary team — including physicians, nurses and technologists specializing in breast imaging, pathology, surgery and reconstruction, medical and radiation therapy, and cancer genetics, as well as social workers, physical and occupational therapists and clinical trials specialists — who work together to ensure patients receive high-quality, precision care.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is given only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. Centers are evaluated on their compliance with NAPBC standards for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
“We are pleased to be recognized for our commitment to providing high-quality breast cancer care and for our dedication to our patients,” said Kristin A. Skinner, M.D., director of Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta. “From diagnosis through survivorship, we offer patients a full range of options for their care and the support they need along the way.”
Receiving care at a NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:
- Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services.
- A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options.
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.
- Quality breast care close to home.
“This accreditation sets us apart as a leader in breast cancer care in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region,” said Jonathan W. Friedberg, M.D., M.M.Sc., director of Wilmot Cancer Institute. “In addition, Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta offers more clinical trials for breast cancer than any other center in the area, and we are continuing to expand our research program.”
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education. Its board membership includes professionals from 20 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of breast care.
