Free Screenings and Health Education Available for Local Residents at Health Fair
Friday, August 20, 2004
Fourth-year medical students from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, in partnership with the Jay Orchard Street Area Neighborhood Association, are sponsoring a free health summit. The summit will take place on Aug. 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Tyshaun Caldwell Drop-in Center on the corner of Jay and Whitney streets.
Multiple information stations will focus on a wide variety of health issues. Children will have the opportunity to learn about head injury prevention, bike safety, conflict resolution, violence prevention, and nutrition at these stations. Adults will be offered free blood pressure screenings, as well as educational materials about heart health. A station focusing on the prevention of sexual assault will also be available for teens and adults. Medical students will be on hand to answer any health questions residents may have pertaining to these topics.
This event is open to all community members. For more information, contact Scott McIntosh, Ph. D., at 273-3876, or Tracy Korts at 273-3872.
