Monday, September 13, 2004

Peter Jensen, DDS, MS, assumed the role of interim clinical director of the Outreach Programs in the Division of Community Dentistry & Oral Disease Prevention (CDODP) effective August 1, 2004.

Jensen will continue in his position as director of the University Dental Faculty Group. In his role in CDODP, he will work closely with Holly Barone, the senior operations administrator.  “Dr Jensen brings significant experience to this new role,” said Cyril Meyerowitz, DDS, MD, professor and chair of the Eastman Department of Dentistry and director of Eastman Dental Center.  “He will be integral to the Community Dentistry operations, ensuring quality provision of care and efficiency of practice.”

Jensen is a graduate of the University Of Detroit School of Dentistry.  He completed an MS degree in biology at the University of Detroit with a concentration in microbiology and immunology.  His research was in periodontal disease and immune reactions.  He completed the General Practice Residency at Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH) along with a one-year internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1981.

He joined the Eastman Department of Dentistry faculty in 1999 that includes one to one interaction with general practice residents.  In addition to his faculty role and his leadership in the Outreach Programs and Faculty Practice, Jensen spends 1.5 days a week in the SMH operating room treating developmentally disabled patients.

Todd Thierer, DDS, MPH, director of the GPR and medical director (article 28) of Eastman Dental Center said, “I’ve worked closely with Dr. Jensen from his arrival in 1999 and he has been extremely important to the functioning of Dentistry in a variety of clinical and educational roles.  His wealth of experience in private practice and treating underserved populations has been an invaluable resource for our residents.  His background in practice management and as an elected mayor has allowed him to become a key factor in the growth of our clinical enterprise.”
