Turquoise Gala Fund-raiser Set for Oct. 24 at Blue Heron Hills

Event Supports Lymphoma Research at Wilmot Cancer Center

Tuesday, October 05, 2004

Community members are invited to celebrate cancer survival and support lymphoma research at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center by attending the Turquoise Gala on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The Gala will be from 4 to 9 p.m., at Blue Heron Country Club in Macedon, and Steve Sofia of Sofia Collision will serve as master of ceremonies.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Stone of Life Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate strength, determination and courage as they battle cancer.  The award statue was created by lymphoma survivor Andrew Casciani of Gananda.

The award will be presented posthumously to Dierdre Happell, a beloved teacher in the Gananda Central School District, who passed away earlier this year after a long battle with lymphoma.  Fay Young, M.D., hematologist with the Lymphoma Team at the Wilmot Cancer Center, will present the award to Happell’s family.

The evening includes a silent auction, raffles, wine tasting, and grazing stations.

Tickets are $35 and available by contacting organizer Amy Casciani at 315-986-2173 or by e-mail at
