Golisano Children’s Hospital Gala Auction is Saturday, Oct. 23
Wednesday, October 20, 2004
More than 700 people are expected to attend the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Gala Auction, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, at USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar, 240 Airport Way, at the Greater Rochester International Airport. A limited number of tickets remain and can be ordered by calling 585-273-5948.
Howie Jacobson, a well-known local businessman and a member of the hospital’s board of directors, is chairing the Gala. He will also serve as auctioneer during the live-bidding portion of the festivities, during which whimsical metal fish created by local artist Paul Knoblauch will be offered to those in attendance. The fish, which will be auctioned for $5,000 apiece, will be permanently displayed at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Some of the dozen fish have already been spoken for, as interest in the project is running high. Knoblauch is also creating a large fish to go with the dozen smaller fish.
Among the outstanding items for bid is a party at Wegmans’ Tastings restaurant for 100 people, a “girls-night-out” shopping spree at Mann’s Jewelers, a Pampering Package from the Del Monte Lodge, and dinner with wine at Fox Run Vineyards in Geneva. There will also be a silent auction, and the drawing for a 2004 Cadillac SRX.
William Levine, honorary chair, is assisting Gala organizers in ensuring that this year’s event is the best ever. Levine, president of Alleson Athletic, a worldwide sports apparel manufacturer, is a longtime supporter of Golisano Children’s Hospital and the University of Rochester Medical Center. He recently provided a $500,000 gift to name the William and Mildred Levine Pediatric Surgical Suite at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Last year, ESL Federal Credit Union agreed to provide a substantial gift to be presenting sponsor of five Galas; ESL’s commitment is in its second year, and it has proven to be a fruitful relationship, especially for the kids served by Golisano Children’s Hospital. The company is pleased to be the presenting sponsor of the 17th annual Gala, says Dave Fiedler, CEO of ESL Federal Credit Union. Valley Cadillac and the Grill at Strathallan are also among those supporting the hospital
The USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar is made available to Golisano Children’s Hospital and its supporters thanks to the continued generosity of Anthony and Elaine Costello. Gala-goers who have experienced the hangar overwhelmingly supported returning the events return to the spectacular airport location. Organizers plan to leave some of the aircraft inside the 30,000-square-foot hangar, a move that lends a distinctly different feeling to the event than would a traditional banquet hall.
To buy a ticket for the Gala, or to buy a ticket for your chance to win a 2004 Cadillac SRX, call 585-273-5948. In addition, if your party spends more than $100 at the Grill at Strathallan, you will receive one free raffle ticket.
