Record Attendance at Golisano Children’s Hospital Gala Auction
Tuesday, October 26, 2004
A record-breaking crowd of 820 people attended the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Gala Auction Saturday, Oct. 23, at USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar at the Greater Rochester International Airport. Estimates show that the event netted some $400,000, also a record for the annual event.
“The community’s support for our children and for our missions has never been stronger,” says Elizabeth McAnarney, M.D., the hospital’s pediatrician-in-chief.
Howie Jacobson, a member of the Golisano Children’s Hospital Board of Directors, chaired the Gala, and served as auctioneer during a live auction. A trip on a private jet to see a Miami Heat basketball game – courtesy of Anthony J. Costello, Todd Levine, and the National Basketball Association – received a high bid of $14,000. An Ultimate Girls’ Night Out at Mann’s Jewelry went for $7,000, and a day of pampering at the new Del Monte Lodge and Spa was had for almost $5,000.
More than $100,000 was raised through the auctioning of whimsical fish created by artist Paul Knoblauch. The fish will be on permanent display at Golisano Children’s Hospital. In addition, Eduardo Torrado won a 2004 Cadillac SRX from Valley Cadillac.
William Levine, serving as honorary chair, helped ensure a successful Gala. Levine, president of Alleson Athletic, a worldwide sports apparel manufacturer, recently provided a $500,000 gift to name the William and Mildred Levine Pediatric Surgical Suite at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Tom Golisano, the hospital’s namesake, also attended the Gala, addressing the crowd before dinner was served.
Other special friends of the hospital also played big roles. For example, ESL Federal Credit Union was presenting sponsor of the Gala. In addition, the USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar was made available to Golisano Children’s Hospital and its supporters thanks to the continued generosity of Anthony J. and Elaine Costello.
