Migraines and Headaches Topic of Dec. 1 Talk

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Migraines and Headaches will be the topic on Thursday, Dec. 1, 7:30 to 9 p.m., as the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and Strong Health Women’s Services seminar series continues at the JCC, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in Rochester.

Featured speaker will be Neuro-Opthalmologist Deborah Friedman, M.D., associate professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Friedman is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Headache Society, a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the president-elect of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society.

“Migraines affect three times as many women as men, and are the second cause of missed time from work in the United States. However, half of migraine suffers remain undiagnosed,” Friedman said. Her talk will focus on the features of migraines, common misdiagnoses, and a rational approach to treatment.

Next up in the women’s health series will be Stress, Anxiety and Health on Dec. 15, featuring Patricia Bennett, PhD, senior instructor in Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Winter sessions in 2006 will cover Menopause on Jan. 12, Beat the Winter Blues on Feb. 9, and Women’s Cancers on March 2. Spring talks will address Preparing for Pregnancy, March 30, and Aging Successfully, May 4.

The women’s health education series is offered for free to JCC members and for $5 per session for non-members. Registration is required as space is limited. To register, please call 461-2000.
