Stress, Anxiety and Health are Focus of Dec. 15 Talk

‘Strong Women’ Series Continues at JCC

Tuesday, December 06, 2005

The impact of stress and anxiety on women’s well being will be discussed on Thursday, Dec. 15, 7:30 to 9 p.m., as the Jewish Community Center (JCC) and Strong Health Women’s Services seminar series continues at the JCC, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in Rochester.

Stress, Anxiety and Health will be presented by Psychologist Patricia Bennett, Ph.D., senior instructor in Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Bennett works in obstetrics and gynecology, providing therapy for women and teaching resident physicians about psychosocial and communication issues.

“We’ll discuss how stress works, how we become anxious, the habits we have that can help and those that can make it better,” Bennett said. She will also present techniques to manage stress more effectively, to decrease anxiety and to reduce emotional distress.

The series continues in 2006 with talks on Menopause on Jan. 12, Beat the Winter Blues on Feb. 9, and Women’s Cancers on March 2. Spring talks will address Preparing for Pregnancy, March 30, and Aging Successfully, May 4.

The women’s health education series is offered for free to JCC members and for $5 per session for non-members. Registration is required as space is limited. To register, please call 461-2000.
