Buzz Christmas Spectacular Dec. 23 Benefits Wilmot Cancer Center

Tuesday, December 13, 2005

The Breakfast Buzz 98.9FM will hold a radiothon and holiday event from 6 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 23, at T.C. Hooligans at The Mall at Greece Ridge Center.  The second annual Christmas Spectacular will support local cancer care and research at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Christmas Spectacular will feature live music, 98-cent breakfast, arts and crafts, and photos with Santa Claus.  The Breakfast Buzz with Kimberly and Beck will broadcast live and take donations from callers and participants. Cancer patients and survivors will also share stories of hope and triumph.

“The holidays are a joyous, giving time and we are grateful that The Breakfast Buzz remembers people who are facing the challenges and pain of cancer,” said Richard I. Fisher, M.D., director of Wilmot Cancer Center.

The six-hour event is sponsored by Eastman Kodak Co, Frontier Communications, T.C. Hooligans, Digiquick presents Clix, The Mall at Greece Ridge Center, Messenger-Post Newspapers, Michael’s Crafts and 98.9 The Buzz.  In addition, J.B. Sterling Construction will match the first $25,000 in donations that day.

“With the generous donation by J.B. Sterling, no gift is too small, because it’s doubled,” commented Michael Doyle, VP/General Manager of Entercom Rochester Radio.

Throughout the morning, there will be performances by local bands including Dave McGrath, John Akers, and Jimmy Lane, as well as local schools and community choirs.

T.C. Hooligans will offer a 98-cent breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., and children can visit with The Jolly Ol’ Fellow beginning at 7 a.m.  There will be craft activities for children, compliments of Michael’s Crafts.

There will be raffles including a Kodak digital camera.  Free tickets are available in Messenger-Post Newspapers.

Volunteers will be taking calls and pledges at (585) 227-WLMT (227-9568.)

The Wilmot Cancer Center is raising $42.5 million to expand cancer care and research and construct a new facility.  Wilmot is Rochester’s largest cancer center with more than 400 doctors, nurses and staff working together to care for people with cancer and bring us closer to a cure.
