August 20, 2012
The City of Rochester and the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) will sponsor the fourth annual Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St.
“We are proud to support this impactful health fair for women and to make use of the Rochester Public Market in this beneficial way,” said Richards. “This annual women’s health screening fair is an excellent opportunity to bring resources to the women who need them most. I sincerely thank the University of Rochester Medical Center, and especially Dr. James Woods, for their hands-on community involvement.”
The fair will offer a variety of free health screenings to adult women from ages 18 to 80, including tests for asthma, AIDS/HIV, osteoporosis, breast cancer, heart disease, stroke risk, dental problems, diabetes, glaucoma, kidney disease, lead poisoning, mental health issues and skin cancer.
Information booths will be available to Ask the MD, Ask the Ob/Gyn, Ask the Nutritionist and Ask the Pharmacist. Help for smoking cessation and also for insurance enrollment will be offered for those in need. Physicians and mid-level care providers will be on site throughout the event for screenings and to answer questions.
“Promoting women’s health requires personal responsibility but also community action,” said James R. Woods Jr., M.D., Women’s Fair organizer and chair of URMC’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “The Women’s Health Screening Fair at the Market confirms this commitment. Results from our three prior fairs revealed numerous participants with serious health risk factors. Once again we are urging women to ‘spend an hour with us, and we will give you back a lifetime of health.’”
The Women’s Health Screening Fair is co-sponsored by Wegmans, MVP Health Care, Excellus, M&T Bank, Presentation Source, Verizon Wireless and the Rochester Academy of Medicine,
