URMC’s Women’s Health, Fertility Services Lauded
December 20, 2012
Health care services dedicated to women and to reproductive health at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) have earned national recognition.
URMC’s Strong Memorial Hospital was cited among “100 Hospitals With Great Women’s Health Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review, and the Strong Fertility Center was designated a Center of Excellence by OptumHealth.
Hospitals ranked on Becker’s list are those that “offer outstanding programs within women's health, including gynecology, obstetrics, reproductive medicine and other gender-specific conditions and health needs.” The publication’s editorial team selects hospitals based on clinical accolades, quality care and women's health proficiencies and awards. To be considered, hospitals must have been recognized for excellence by several sources, including Health and Human Services’ National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health model, U.S. News & World Report, and HealthGrades,
“It is gratifying to rank among the nation’s top providers of women’s health care and to have our ongoing efforts to meet the health needs of women of all ages acknowledged,” said James R. Woods Jr., M.D., URMC’s Henry A. Thiede Professor and chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
As the region’s leading provider of fertility services, Strong Fertility Center’s Center of Excellence designation affirms that it “has met or exceeded rigorous performance standards and quality guidelines.” OptumHealth is the health- and wellness-focused business of Optum, an information and technology-enabled health services business. With its Centers of Excellence network, OptumHealth identifies providers who offer successful and cost-effective treatment for patients in a range of clinical areas, including infertility and pregnancy.
“We hope this designation will give couples an extra measure of confidence in our commitment to providing them a full range of high-quality fertility services to help them achieve their dreams of parenthood,” said Strong Fertility Center director Kathleen M. Hoeger, M.D., M.P.H., professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
