Wilmot Cancer Center Expert Offers Nutrition Talk Feb. 24

Feb. 19, 2010

A dietitian from the James P Wilmot Cancer Center will lead an “Ask the Expert” discussion on nutrition for the cancer survivor at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Gilda’s Club, 255 Alexander St.

Joanna Lipp, MS, RD, will discuss the connection between diet and cancer prevention and its impact on prevention of recurrence.  The American Institute for Cancer Research suggests that anywhere from 30 to 80 percent of cancers can be prevented with diet and lifestyle changes.

She will discuss the benefits of a plant-based diet and various foods that have cancer-fighting properties.  She will offer samples of some plant-based dishes during the discussion.

The Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center is the region’s leader in cancer care and research. The center has more than 400 doctors, nurses, scientists and support staff dedicated to finding cures.
