Noyes Implements New Medication Administration Technologies
Friday, May 18, 2012
Noyes Health announced today that the Noyes Memorial Hospital has implemented BMV (Bedside Medication Verification) and EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record).
BMV encourages safe medication administration by electronically identifying and documenting the five rights of medication management, including the right patient, the right medication, the right dosage, the right administration route, and the right time.
“Patient safety is our top priority,” said Amy Pollard, President, Noyes Health. “This advancement in technology will help us ensure that each patient gets precisely the right care.”
Patients admitted to the Hospital will be issued a bar-coded wristband, which will be scanned prior to the administration of all medicines. The system provides caregivers a way to confirm dosage information, and also check patient data stored in Noyes Health’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, such as allergies and test results. Details of each medicine administration are stored in the EMAR.
In an effort to continually improve patient safety, Noyes Health also adheres to the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG).
