How to Apply

We welcome applicants from Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Midwifery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as other specialties. We accept applications from post-graduate level candidates who aim to assume clinical, academic, policy making, or community leadership careers in breastfeeding medicine.

The exact nature of the training program will depend on the background and needs of the applicant, however, the fellowship is intended to develop clinical excellence in breastfeeding medicine.

Application Process

There currently is no match system for breastfeeding medicine, so acceptances will be offered individually. Applications are accepted from January-March for a planned July 1 start. Applicants will be reviewed in a rolling fashion, offered on-site interviews with rolling decisions and offers after this point.

An application packet including the following should be sent to our fellowship coordinator:

  1. Cover letter
  2. Application form
  3. CV including prior education
  4. Residency certificate or letter from residency director indicating current standing and planned graduation date
  5. Personal statement delineating the applicants reasons for perusing fellowship and planned career path after completion of fellowship
  6. Letters of recommendation (3) that can speak to your clinical interests in breastfeeding, educational background, and academic/scholarly productivity

All information should be submitted electronically with a cover letter to:

Isabella Vazquez
Breastfeeding Medicine Fellowship Coordinator
(585) 275-7480

Interview Information

Applicants selected for an interview are notified by email and/or phone. Interviews will be held between January and Mid-March. In-person interviews are preferred so that prospective residents can get a better understanding or our program and we can better get to know you. However phone/Skype interviews can be arranged if necessary.

The Interview Day

Applicants can expect to talk with multiple faculty members, lactation consultants, and current fellows during their interview day. For clinical fellows, visits to UR Medicine Breastfeeding clinical sites, including outpatient and inpatient will be arranged.
