Cell Type-Specific Conditional Knockout of p75NTR in the Mouse
In previous studies, Dr. Schor and her group have studied the neuroprotecive and proapototic properties of p75NTR in various cell lines. Recently, Dr. Vesa Kaartinen (University of Michigan) and his group developed a successful p75NTR knockout mouse by flanking all of the p75NTR splice variant-contributing genes with loxP sites. When these mice are bred with Cre driven promoter mice, p75NTR is knocked out in a specific region. Using these genetic tools, the lab aims to knockout p75 in specific cells types, such as Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, to study the roles of p75NTR during nervous system development.
