p75 Neurotrophin Receptor Signaling and Trafficking - A Role in Protection Against Oxidant Stress in Neurons

p75NTR is known to have protective effects against oxidant stress in some cells. Dr. Schor and her lab have found that p75NTR-deficient PC12 pheochromocytoma cells are unable to handle oxidative stress. The lab is now studying the mechanism by which p75NTR protects the cell, with a focus on the intracellular domain (ICD) and its localization to the mitochondria. Using expression constructs of variably sized fragments of p75ICD labeled with a visualization tag, PC12 cells will be transfected and p75ICD trafficking followed to understand the role of this p75NTR cleavage product in resistance to oxidative stress.
