The University of Rochester Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship Program is a two-year ACGME-accredited program. The overall goal of our program is to provide an educational experience that will develop physicians who successfully embrace the role of clinician, educator, and investigator. Fellows will receive a high level of guidance from faculty in developing their clinical and research skills. Fellows will obtain a vast amount of clinical experience due to the volume and diversity of patients in our inpatient settings. Research will be a longitudinal experience throughout the two-year fellowship program. Division research interests are diverse and include: transition to home after hospital discharge, quality improvement and safety, education of residents and medical students, and transitions of care from pediatric to adult providers. Whether you want to pursue training in quality, clinical research, medical education, or public health, we are able to provide a strong education in any area that may interest you. Our Mission Our mission is to improve child health by training pediatric hospital medicine fellows to become leaders in clinical care, research, and quality improvement, thereby providing a path for each hospitalized infant, child and adolescent to reach their fullest potential through a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach that engages caregivers, clinicians, staff, and community members/organizations. Our Fellowship by the Numbers 1 Fellow Position per Year 20 Faculty 56 General Care Unit Beds 2300 Admissions per Year Program Aims To train pediatric hospital medicine fellows to provide high quality patient care across the age and diagnosis spectrum, including acute illness and complex chronic conditions through the acquisition and application of a comprehensive knowledge base, proficiency in hospital medicine interventions and procedures, and compassionate and effective communication skills. To cultivate pediatric hospital medicine fellows who will provide state-of-the-art and informed care through the development and demonstration of fundamental skills in research and quality improvement, including the critical evaluation of medical literature and therapeutic strategies, advancement and integration of new knowledge into practice, and enhancement of patient safety and quality of care. To develop pediatric hospital medicine fellows with the skills to become leaders of a multidisciplinary team, serving as a role model and educator for all members of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine team and as a consultant and collaborator with all children’s services in the institution and community, while gaining an introduction to the skill set of a successful pediatric hospitalist. What Makes Us Unique Flexible Curriculum Fellows will have experiences in the full spectrum of general pediatric inpatient medicine, including the care of newborns, children with complex chronic conditions, children with surgical problems and palliative care services.
