Improving Literacy Skills of Early Elementary School Children

Elizabeth Diekroger, M.D. and Rebecca Pratt, M.D. are two pediatric residents in the CARE Track.  This residency track requires residents to carry out a community-based project that provides and/or implements an evidence base for the efficacy of a specific intervention on behalf of children.  Drs. Diekroger and Pratt are working on a pilot project that is focused on improving the basic literacy skills of early elementary school children in the Rochester area through the use of music-assisted learning.  Their preliminary evaluation of the project suggests that it has a positive impact and they hope to conduct a formal study of the project in the future.
