Third Year Fellow
Ryan Alanzalon, M.D.
Ryan was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and has traversed the country in pursuit of his educational and career goals. He was drawn to pursue his undergraduate degrees in Economics and Molecular Biology at the University of California at Santa Cruz, a sunny beach town in Northern California. He then proceeded to complete his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine. In search of warmer climates, he undertook his residency training at one of the country's largest health care providers, Kaiser Permanente, in Los Angeles, CA. It was there where he truly developed and honed his interest in both pediatrics and congenital cardiology, under the tutelage of his mentor and Department Chief, Dr. Tim Degner. He looks forward to caring and learning from the children of the Rochester region, the occasional garbage plate, and navigating snow once again.
When he's not in the hospital, his personal interests include: improving his tennis serve, learning about local culture via frequent trips to farmers' markets, restaurants, bars, and coffee shops, and keeping up with his hometown baseball team, the San Francisco Giants.
Third Year Fellow
Rachel Bounds, M.D.
Rachel is originally from Maryland. She attended medical school at the University of South Carolina and trained for pediatric residency at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Westchester, NY. Her interest in pediatric cardiology began during a summer internship in medical school and has continued to grow since then. During residency, she participated in a medical mission to Honduras dedicated to the care of congenital cardiac disease and she remains interested in global medicine. Since starting fellowship, she has particularly enjoyed caring for children with complex congenital heart disease and pediatric cardiac intensive care. Outside of fellowship training, Rachel has enjoyed exploring Rochester’s many parks and restaurants.
Her personal interests include: hiking with her dog Stella, traveling and watching sports (especially the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles and NY Rangers)
First Year Fellow
Marylou Dryer, M.D.
Marylou is a native of Midland, MI. She attended Grand Valley State University in western Michigan to major in Biomedical Science before commissioning as an officer in the US Navy and leaving the state to pursue medical training at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA, and then internship in Internal Medicine at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in California. She served as a General Medical Officer in Family Medicine at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, in Oak Harbor, WA, then was stationed with the Seabees of NMCB THREE homeported in Port Hueneme, CA, including deployments to Afghanistan, Europe and Africa. Upon separation from active duty, she completed an administrative fellowship in Quality and Patient Safety and was certified by the American Board of Medical Quality before residency training in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. She was attracted to pediatric cardiology for the chance to blend various aspects of medicine such as patient continuity in clinic, inpatient acute care, definitive procedural treatments, academic medicine, and standard-of-care defining research all into a single career that is brightened by the joy of practicing in a children's hospital.
She has moved to Rochester with her husband, Jacob, along with their twins, a son, Jordan, and daughter, Maya, as well as their energetic boxer and two cats. She and her family have been spending time at local farmer's markets, festivals and parks getting to know their new home. When not in the hospital, she enjoys spending time outdoors including gardening, camping, and hiking and likes cooking, baking, and winemaking.
