Educational Activities

Department Conferences & Meetings

The Department of Pediatrics hosts a variety of conferences and meetings that enhance clinical and research training, meet American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and ACGME requirements, and give our fellows an opportunity to interact with well-established clinicians and researchers, both internal and external to URMC.

LEND Core Course

Weekly, During First Year

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program core course, which DBP fellows attend in their first year of training, covers a broad range of interdisciplinary and systems-level topics. The curriculum is organized into modules; Life Course, Diversity, Leadership, ASDs, and Transition, and includes didactic sessions led by LEND faculty from all thirteen LEND disciplines. LEND provides trainees with a variety of teaching and presentation experiences, emphasizing public speaking skills, and principles of instruction and adult learning.

Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics Conference

Weekly

The DBP weekly conference is organized to ensure that all curriculum topics addressed by the DBP Board are covered over a 3-year cycle. Central clinical topics (for example, developmental diagnosis, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis and treatment, outcomes for NICU graduates, diagnosis and management of sleep and elimination issues) are covered annually. Other ABP curriculum areas (gender identity issues, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral dysgenesis) are covered at least once per 3-year cycle. Senior fellows organize and schedule topics based on the ABP curriculum requirements. All faculty and fellows share in the teaching. Periodic clinical case review discussions and journal article presentations are also included.

ASD Programmed Learning

One-Time Training

All fellows complete a 13-module programmed curriculum covering screening, diagnosis, and evidence-based intervention for children with ASDs, developed for presentation to medium-term trainees through our LEND program.
