Biography

Jean has worked with children who have type 1 and type 2 diabetes for over 20 years. She really enjoys helping children and families learn how to best care for diabetes and fit it into their lifestyle. She believes that children with diabetes can do just about anything they put their mind to. She has expertise in managing diabetes through the use of insulin pumps and sensors.

Jean also coordinates the regional NYS newborn screening program for babies with congenital hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH).

Research interests include the use of motivational interviewing to help teenagers improve their diabetes control as well as the use of pumps and sensors in children.

Professional Background

Jean has worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner for over 20 years. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in nursing from the University of Rochester. After working in a primary care pediatric practice for 2 years she joined Pediatric Endocrinology at URMC.

She cares for children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. She also coordinates the newborn screening program for congenital hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) in the URMC catchment area.

Research

Jean's research interests include the use of insulin pumps in young children, motivational interviewing, school based telehealth to manage diabetes and the emerging field of continous glucose monitoring and monitoring through the cloud.

Jean has published on the use of insulin pumps in young children and also has authored chapters on pediatric endocrine emergencies.
