Laurie Kopin, Ed.D, MS, RN, ANP, FPCNA, is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. She also holds a joint appointment as a Senior Instructor in the University of Rochester School of Medicine in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine. Her primary appointment is the Executive Director of Executive Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center and as a Senior Nurse Practitioner in the Preventive Cardiology Program.

She is the 2003 recipient of the University of Rochester Medical Center Board of Directors Excellence Award. In addition, she received the University of Rochester School of Nursing Outstanding Scholarly Practitioner Award also awarded in 2003. In April of 2007, she received the prestigious award of "Woman of the Year – Medicine" from the IACC in Rochester, New York. Nationally, Ms. Kopin was the recipient of the Terry Thomas Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association in 2008 and became a PCNA Fellow in 2010.

Ms. Kopin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Nazareth College, Rochester, NY in 1981 and went on to receive her Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration in 1991 and a Post-Masters as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner in 1994 from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. In May, 2011 she received her doctorate in Educational Administration in Higher Education from the University of Rochester Warner School of Education and Human Development. Her dissertation was titled, "An Examination of Health Promotion Services for College Students".

Ms. Kopin is the author of numerous articles, book chapters, and web-based learning modules in the area of preventive cardiology and lipid management. She serves as an author and editor for the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine. Her publications and research interests are primarily in the area of health promotion and the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Presently, Ms. Kopin serves as either Co-Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator for several clinical research trials including two that were awarded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

Ms. Kopin serves on the faculty in the University of Rochester School of Medicine Community and Preventive Medicine's Masters in Public Health program and teaches a course, "Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine".

Professional and community outreach efforts include collaborative efforts with both local and national organizations. She is President for the Northeast New York Regional Chapter of the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) and served on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Nursing – National CHD Prevention Subcommittee. Internationally, she served on the Executive Curriculum Committee for the World Heart Federation and currently is an abstract reviewer for the European Society of Cardiology.

Laurie Kopin is the Executive Director of the Donor Relations and Executive Health Programs at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is also a Senior Nurse Practitioner in the Preventive Cardiology Clinic located at the Clinton Crossings Medical Campus. Of special interest to Ms. Kopin was the development of the preventive cardiology program that offers a fully comprehensive lipid disorder and hypertension clinic. Numerous clinical trials are conducted at the Preventive Cardiology Clinic where she serves as the sub-investigator.

Ms. Kopin is also an Associate Professor of Nursing and a Senior Instructor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Nursing and the School of Medicine. She teaches a graduate level MPH course in the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine entitled, "Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine". She is a collaborating faculty member on the NHLBI Nutrition Academic Award that was the driving force behind the development and implementation of this preventive medicine course.
