Dr. Michalko's clinical practice includes all aspects of hand, wrist, and elbow surgery, as well as peripheral nerve surgery and microsurgery. He has special expertise in surgical treatment of pediatric hand conditions, reconstructive surgery for arthritic and traumatic disorders of the hand and wrist, and upper extremity nerve disorders.
Dr. Michalko earned his medical degree and completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at URMC. He also completed a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Wisconsin and a fellowship in Hand Surgery at Brown University. Dr. Michalko is board-certified in both orthopaedic surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has authored medical journal articles on such topics as reattachment of severed fingers and reconstruction of children's hands. Dr. Michalko is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery.

If surgery is required, Dr. Michalko uses the convenient and efficient Clinton Crossings Procedure Rooms for outpatient surgical procedures when possible. The Procedure Room team of nurses and technicians that assist him are experts in the care of patients undergoing outpatient procedures. Dr. Michalko also works closely with our specially trained hand and upper extremity therapists in the Hand Rehabilitation program to direct your post-surgical care and to ensure a fast and successful recovery. When bracing is ordered by Dr. Michalko, our hand therapists are prepared to fashion custom orthoses on site the same day as your appointment.
