Biography

Dr. Callahan is a member of the MS1 Human Structure and Function (HSF) Anatomical Strand Faculty Team. Her educational interests are in all forms of Anatomy, with particular emphasis on Micro-anatomy (also referred to as Histology). Dr. Callahan is the newly appointed Histology Resources Curator whose responsibilities include assembling and maintaining the digital histological resources significant for medical education and research. Dr. Callahan's current goals are to add significant content to the HSF digital slide database, to update the histology medical education curriculum content, and to support the microscopy education in CVRI.

Dr. Callahan is also a 2017 Dean's Teaching Fellow. Her DTF project is to develop medical education research methods to analyze the efficacy of online digital tools created specifically for URMC students taking the MS 1 Histology curriculum. The research outcome is aimed towards supporting students at their own pace of learning for pattern recognition skills and cell/tissue diagnostic skills.

Dr. Callahan's biomedical research interest is on the consequences of disrupted neuronal cytoskeletal in late-onset neuro-degenerative diseases, particularly in Alzheimer's Disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and Parkinson's Disease.
