I am an Associate Professor of Academic Imaging Sciences (Radiology) and board-certified by the American Board of Radiology. I serve as the Chief of the Division of Emergency Imaging at URMC. My colleagues and I are specialists in Emergency Imaging, a growing field of radiology focused on providing high-quality medical services in urgent and emergent settings. Since being appointed division chief in 2017, we have grown our emergency imaging group from a single member to 8 full- and part-time faculty with subspecialty training including magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine, neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, and thoracic/body radiology.

My primary teaching, research, and institutional policy interests include examining and addressing the intersection of physician wellness and burnout, physician recruitment and retention, physician error and patient harm, antiracism, promoting equity and inclusion in academic medicine, and discourse of these topics in formal and informal medical training pedagogy. Interests also include advanced imaging of stroke, and acute spine and neurologic trauma. Prior to 2019, my primary research and teaching interests focused on emerging breast cancer imaging modalities, particularly cone-beam breast CT (CBBCT).

I have the privilege of participating in several relevant committees serving the department of imaging sciences and our trainees, the medical center, and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, including the University of Rochester Faculty Senate, the URSMD Medical Faculty Council, and the URMC Wellness Strategic Planning Workgroup.

I am a native of Rochester, NY, graduated from Brighton public schools and McQuaid Jesuit HS, and studied biophysical chemistry and studio art at Dartmouth College, NH. After a year of laboratory research at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California San Diego, I attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA and returned to Rochester for training in Diagnostic Radiology and Magnetic Resonance Imaging at URMC. I joined the Department of Imaging Sciences in 2012, and have served as Chief of the Division of Emergency Imaging since 2017.

I identify as a White male, prefer he/him/his pronouns, and acknowledge my racial, educational, and socio-economic privilege.
