Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Meednu graduated from the Department of Biology, University of Rochester with a Ph.D in Cellular, Developmental and Molecular Biology. She then trained in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division, University of Rochester Medical Center where she studied the role of a lipid signaling in immune-mediated lung diseases including asthma. She currently is a research assistant professor in the lab of Jennifer Anolik, M.D., Ph.D. She joined the lab in 2012 and has been working on the role of B cells in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, with a specific focus on systemic lupus erythematous and rheumatoid arthritis.

Research

Dr. Meednu's research focus is to understand the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of autoimmune diseases, speciffically systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), on the role of B cells in the development and progression of these diseases. She is investigating autoantibody independent functions of B cells including interaction with other immune cells and other relevant organ systems. In RA, Dr. Meednu is seeking to understand the mechanism of how B cells interact with osteoclasts and osteoblasts to contribute to bone erosion process in this disease.
