Dr. Erturk graduated from medical school from the University of Dicle, Diyarbakir Turkey in 1979. Subsequently, he finished his surgical internship at the University of Antalya, Turkey. He then came to the University of Wisconsin and repeated another surgical internship for one year in 1981. In 1982 he started a urologic residency training program at the University of Rochester, Rochester New York. He completed this in 1986. Following his residency he was appointed as a fellow in endourology and kidney stone disease at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Minnesota. This fellowship was completed in 1987. He then became a fellow in renal transplantation and renovascular hypertension at the Cleveland Clinic. After completing both fellowships he was appointed as a faculty member to the Department of Urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His primary assignment as a member of the Department of Urology was pursuing endourology of stone disease with general urology patient care. He was also member of the transplant surgery team and was instrumental in developing multi-organ transplantation at the Medical Center.

Currently Dr. Erturk is the Director of the Comprehensive Kidney Stone Treatment Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center. His main focus is minimally invasive urologic surgery and stone disease. He has developed a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of patients with kidney stone disease including state of the art, noninvasive, surgical options in extensive metabolic evaluation with preventative therapy. The Kidney Stone Center has become recognized both locally and nationally. He has been practicing in the Rochester region for over 25 years. His admissions are to continue serving the population, especially the ones with kidney stone disease. The recognition of pain and suffering associated with this ailment allows him to be available immediately for the patients to provide care. There is a successful kidney referral hotline where the patients can call directly at all hours of the day for evaluation and treatment.

His goals are to continue teaching medical students and residents with the experience that he has gained over the years. He is also academically involved with research, publications and presentations related to his subspecialty both nationally and internationally.
