Prior to that, she had experience in a variety of settings including primary care pediatrics, camp nursing and as a staff nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong from 2001-2004. Julie spends 100% of her time in the outpatient setting, providing direct care to clinic patients including management of the pediatric vagal nerve stimulator clinic, telephone management, and providing patient and family education. In collaboration with the dietitian and attending physician, Julie also assists with the management the pediatric patients on the ketogenic diet. Julie is an active member of the American Epilepsy Society and the Association of Child Neurology Nurses. In 2022, Julie earned the Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society (FAES) designation which recognizes long-term, committed members who have shared their time and talents to advance both the American Epilepsy Society mission as well as the field of epilepsy. Julie has lectured both locally and nationally on topics such as pediatric epilepsy, seizure rescue plans, vagus nerve stimulation, the ketogenic diet, psychosocial effects of epilepsy, and anti-seizure medication side effects. She has precepted nursing students and participated in community education through various programs sponsored by the local Epilepsy Foundation and the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.
