Professional Background

Research Interests: Cancer Control and Survivorship among Latinos; Smoking Cessation using Mobile Health among Latinos.

Dr. Arana is a Research Assistant Professor in the Public Health Sciences Department at The University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. Dr. Arana is a social and behavioral scientist whose research includes promoting cancer prevention and control among underserved and understudied populations incorporating principles of community-based participatory approach in the U.S., Mexico, and Guatemala. Currently, she is working on the implementation of a text messaging randomized smoking cessation R01 clinical trial for Latinos in the U.S. Dr. Arana is the recipient of an NCI Diversity Supplement Award to this R01 to analyze the relationship between biopsychosocial factors and smoking patterns among Latinos. Dr. Arana is also interested in research improving quality of life among Latino cancer survivors. Her long-term research interests involve the development of culturally and linguistically appropriate interventions to address cancer control and survivorship among Latinos.
