Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Zhiming Yang graduated from Zhejiang Medical University (Hangzhou, China) in 1997 and has worked as a urologist in China before he moved to U.S for his Ph.D. and post-doctoral training in University of Rochester and Johns Hopkins University. He finished his anatomic pathology residency at National Institutes of Health in 2015 and became board certified in Anatomic Pathology since then. He completed a surgical pathology fellowship at UCLA and a genitourinary pathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University from 2015-2017. His previous experience focused on the clinical management, basic research, and pathological diagnosis of genitourinary malignancies, especially prostate cancer.

Research

Dr. Zhiming Yang's primary research interest has been focused on the role of androgen receptor in human diseases, especially prostate cancer and the neurodegenerative disease spinobulbar muscular atrophy (also known as Kennedy's disease). He has assessed the effects of new anti-androgens derived from curcumin in the treatment of prostate cancer and spinobulbar muscular atrophy. He has identified novel androgen receptor co-regulators in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer.
