Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Adam Simning is an Assistant Professor who completed his psychiatry residency in 2017 and geriatric psychiatry fellowship in 2018. Dr. Simning currently provides consultative clinical care to approximately 30 nursing homes through University of Rochester's Skilled Nursing Facility Telepsychiatry Program.

Research

As a physician-scientist with training in Geriatric Psychiatry and Epidemiology, Dr. Simning is developing a research program that aims to help community-dwelling older adults with complex physical, psychological, and social needs age in place. With funding from the National Institute on Aging, Dr. Simning is using local and Medicare datasets to examine transition patterns and factors affecting the length of stay in the community among newly discharged skilled nursing facility patients. This information is informing the development of a care transitions intervention to help vulnerable older adults successfully transition from the skilled nursing facility to their homes. To date, Dr. Simning's research has received funding from the NIA, NIH, New York State Department of Health, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
