Professional Bio

Bogachan Sahin majored in molecular biology as an undergraduate at Princeton University. He completed his M.D. and Ph.D. training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where he studied motor learning, synaptic plasticity, and post-synaptic signal transduction in the striatum as a graduate student. After completing his neurology residency and stroke fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, he joined the faculty of the Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2013. He is currently serving as the Associate Director of the Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program.

His research interests include 1) mechanisms of visual recovery in stroke survivors with homonymous visual fields deficits; 2) markers of subradiograhic large vessel disease and occult paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in cryptogenic stroke; and 3) functional outcomes in stroke patients who present with proximal vessel occlusion and get treated with or without mechanical embolectomy.
