Tara Vaz is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Vaz has 13 years of extensive clinical experience in private practice and as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the State College of Optometry. Dr. Vaz was also a Principal Research Optometrist at Bausch & Lomb, where she provided clinical research support for vision care product development.

Dr. Vaz is a New York State certified Optometrist and fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She provides a full range of clinical services including routine exams, pre- and post-operative cataract services, and spectacle and contact lens fittings. Dr. Vaz recently completed a nine week BostonSight® PROSE Clinical Fellowship and will be leading FEI's new PROSE service. PROSE is a specialized contact lens that is customized to help restore visual function to people suffering from complex corneal problems including keratoconus, severe dry eye, neurotrophic keratitis, corneal dystrophies, and more.

Dr. Vaz enjoys teaching and takes a team-centered approach to patient care, working with primary care providers and specialists from many disciplines. Dr. Vaz greatly appreciates the opportunity to earn your trust and that of your patients in need of her services.

Dr. Vaz is certified by BostonSight® to offer patients PROSE (prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem). This revolutionary treatment provides relief and helps restore visual function to people suffering from complex corneal problems including keratoconus, severe dry eye, corneal dystrophies, ocular graft-versus-host disease and more. Flaum Eye Institute is just one of 13 centers in the U.S. authorized to customize and fit these prosthetic devices that replace or support damaged ocular functions by improving vision and reducing pain and light sensitivity. Dr. Vaz and the PROSE clinic will also support the research of Geunyoung Yoon, Ph. D., who is collaborating in an NEI sponsored study to help improve the vision of persons suffering from corneal disease.
