Biography

Professional Background

Dr. Mehta is a physician-scientist who practices neuropathology and autopsy pathology. She completed residency in Anatomic Pathology and fellowship in Neuropathology at the University of California at Los Angeles (2010). Subsequently, she completed a visiting fellowship at the Indiana University Alzheimer Disease Center (2011). She has held prior faculty appointments at Jefferson Medical College and the University of Maryland and was recruited to the University of Rochester in 2015. Dr. Mehta is the recipient of multiple awards including the Moore Award for Clinico-Pathological Correlation, Hirano Award for Neurodegenerative Disease Research, and Weil Award for Experimental Neuropathology from the American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP). Her prior research has led to changes in methods of regulatory testing of latex medical products, and recently, to updated guidelines and an FDA Public Safety Communication regarding the use of intravascular medical devices. Dr. Mehta published initial works on hydrophilic polymer embolism (HPE), including descriptions of incidence and clinical implications of this iatrogenic vascular disease. Her current research pertains to vascular diseases and the biology of stroke, and is funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NIH/NINDS).
