Professional Background

Hakan Sahin, M.D.

Dr. Sahin has graduated from the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994 with his Doctor of Medicine degree. His postdoctoral training commenced at the Akdeniz University School of Medicine as a Diagnostic Radiologist. He then went on to Successfully complete clinical fellowships in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at University of Washinton in Seattle, Cardiothoracic Imaging at National Jewish Health in Denver and MRI imaging at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas

Dr. Sahin is a board-certified radiologist by the American Board of Radiology in diagnostic radiology. He has continued his research and teaching activities at the Cleveland Clinics Foundation, University of San Diego California and Univiersity of Colorado before he joined the Imaging Sciences Department at the University of Rochester. His active research projects include interstitial lung disease, cardiovascular and thoracic manifestationsof the metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Sahin specialized in the diagnostic imaging pertinent to thoracic and abdominal disease. He has been invited to speak at national and international meetings. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he serves as a scientific reviewer for national and international scientific peer reviewed journals.

One of his papers entitled "Chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis: CT features comparison with pathologic evidence of fibrosis and survival. Sahin et al" has been included in the Yearbook of Diagnostic Radiology, breakthrough developments in Diagnostic Radiology, October, 2008. More recently one of his projects entitled "Lung-RADS Recommendation Compliance and Lung Cancer Detection in Patients with Suspicious Pulmonary Nodules on CT Lung Screening Examinations. Ambrosini R. Li G, Sahin H." has been presented at the STR 2018, and won the "Best Junior Faculty Presentation Award".

Dr. Sahin is an active member of the following national and international organizations: RSNA, ACR, STR, NASCI and AMA; He has been an active member of report template standardization committee for lung fibrosis and HRCT and RSNA coordinated by Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and Fleischner Society. Locally, he has been the leader of the multidisciplinary interstitial lung disease conference and a prior leader of the lung cancer screening program at the URMC.

In his position at the UR Medicine Imaging Department, Dr. Sahin brings his vast experience and education contributions to the cardiothoracic imaging section.
