Professional Background

Dr. Alpert was born in Brooklyn and raised in the commuter suburbs of New York City. She received her B.A. at Oberlin College and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Western Michigan University. Prior to medical school, she worked with young people in New York City, teaching GED classes and providing HIV prevention programming. She received her M.D. from the University Of Vermont College Of Medicine in 2014 and went on to complete her Internal Medicine Residency at Cambridge Health Alliance. She joined the faculty at the University of Rochester Medical Center in August 2017 as a Senior Instructor of Psychiatry and Medicine. She currently works as an attending on the department's inpatient Medicine in Psychiatry unit for patients who require combined medical and mental health care. Her main research interests are regarding the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people with cancer as well as the needs of marginalized people generally. She is a member of the LGBTQ community.
